Memorial Info

The 9/11 Artifact that Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department retrieved from New York City in 2011 has been permanently placed behind Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department’s Administration Office at 897 Parsons Road, Traverse City, MI 49686. The 9/11 Memorial Park is located at the corner of North Three Mile Road and Parsons Road in East Bay Township of Grand Traverse County. There is also a map below pinpointing the location of the Administration Office.

The Artifact

The roughly 3,100-pound beam located in the heart of the GT 9/11 Memorial Park is a portion of a support beam from the North Tower of the WTC. Firefighters from GT Metro Fire Department made the trek to JFK Airport Hangar #17 and safely transported the artifact from JFK to Traverse City on April 8, 2011. The artifact was permanently placed at the GT 9/11 Memorial Park in 2012, and annual memorial services are held on 9/11. We are honored to be the steward of the GT 9/11 Memorial Park.
