WHAT IS SAFE KIDS?
Safe Kids Worldwide® is a nonprofit organization working to help families and communities keep kids safe from injuries. Most people are surprised to learn preventable injuries are the #1 killer of kids in the United States. Throughout the world, almost one million children die of an injury each year, and almost every one of these tragedies is preventable.
Safe Kids North Shore is part of an extensive network of more than 400 coalitions in the United States and with partners in more than 30 countries to reduce traffic injuries, drownings, falls, burns, poisonings and more. Safe Kids North Shore was created in 2002 in Traverse City, MI. It was originally led by host agency MSU Extension Grand Traverse, partnered with Munson Trauma Services and is now proudly led by Grand Traverse Metro Fire Dept. Together in collaboration with other local agencies we work to prevent childhood injuries.
Kids are going to get bumps, bruises and scratches, but we can all do more to help ensure they don’t sustain more serious injuries. Safe Kids provides research based Safety Tips on a wide variety of risk areas and ages. Also, check out this all-inclusive A Parent’s Guide to Child Safety! 24 pages of safety tips and trusted resources.
CAR SEAT CHECKS:
Get your car seat professionally checked by a nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) at a Car Seat Check-Up event or one of our Car Seat Fitting Stations. Safe Kids North Shore holds Car Seat Fitting Stations two times a month on the 2nd and 4th Fridays. These check days are hosted by Grand Traverse Metro Fire Dept and Traverse City Fire Dept.
